Kumback Café has been in this same building in Perry for almost a century! Of course we had to check it out!
Taste-I had their famous cinnamon roll, warmed. It was flaky, buttery and sweet.
Taste-I got the chicken-fried steak breakfast with scrambled eggs, hash browns and biscuits and gravy. This chicken-fried steak was the best I have ever eaten. (and as an Oklahoman, I have eaten my share.) It was breaded differently than normal with a thicker cut of steak. It looked different and it tasted different.
Atmosphere-Sports and Route 66 memorabilia decorate the walls. It had a warm, cozy feel.
Atmosphere-The diner feels like its been here awhile (and it has). The walls are covered with pictures and memorabilia from the tiny town of Perry. Other than that, standard older diner feel.
Service-The waitress was friendly and didn't bat an eye when I ordered dessert after my dessert.
Service-Very attentive and thorough. Warmed up Jess's cinnamon roll and made sure she got her pie. Checked on us regularly and drinks were always full.
Value-Definitely worth the money.
Value-You get a lot of food for $11. Huge CFS, hashbrowns, two eggs, two biscuits with gravy. A very hearty breakfast. Jess ate lighter, so it was around $20 for us both.
Uniqueness-Nothing too outlandish here, just diner food made well.
Uniqueness-Nothing too strange here. Just tried and true favorites the way they should be done. No fads, no flash.
Variety-They serve what you would expect from an Oklahoma diner: breakfast, chicken-fried steak, burgers, etc.
Variety-Burgers, sandwiches, breakfast, salads, soups, and a lot more. Pretty diverse diner food. Something for everyone. Surprisingly vegetarian friendly.
Cleanliness-It was comfortable and clean.
Cleanliness-Definitely not the best. I don't like to go into specifics, but it could have used some care in places.
Sides/Beverages/Desserts-Yes, I had a slice of pie after my cinnamon roll and it was delicious. I had the peanut butter chocolate pie. It was creamy with fluffy meringue and a buttery, flaky crust.
Sides/Drinks/Desserts-Biscuits were good, gravy was even better. Very good hashbrowns. Eggs just like I wanted them. Standard sides, but done well. Drinks are fountain drinks and nothing spectacular. Pies are high and delicious in some unique flavors.
Story-The Kumback was celebrating its 93rd Anniversary when we visited! They even include a history of the restaurant on the menu. It's an important historical part of the town of Perry.
Story-Kumback has been in the same place for almost 100 years. It is tied to the history of Perry and the core of the town. Very proud of its residents.
Presentation-The presentation was about what you would expect with a home cooking restaurant.
Presentation-Like a breakfast feast! Pie came out taller than I thought humanly possible. Cinnamon roll was small, but very good looking.
Come here for breakfast or lunch when in Perry. Don't forget a slice of pie!
